The Lyon County Free Fair is an annual public event that takes place in August. Here, visitors can find plenty to see and do, many of which are free. The National Teachers Hall of Fame recognizes excellence in teaching with annual induction ceremonies celebrating teachers from all across the nation. Lyon County Free Fair

The Lyon County Fairgrounds are within minutes of your best hotel rooms, and they are the site of the annual free fair. This local public event offers free admission and free public parking, as well as a variety of rides and attractions, vendors, and more. You can find many exhibits from local social clubs, including the local 4-H chapter, livestock, and dogs, as well as carnival ride favorites and concessions. Emporia State University

Emporia State University has a long rich history of training the next generation of educators, while also offering a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs. This local university has a rich academics program, as well as a strong athletics program for students to participate in or simple spectate. In addition to their undergraduate courses, this school also has a great graduate program with an emphasis on business, teaching, and other education and science programs. Teachers Hall of Fame

The National Teachers Hall of Fame celebrates and honors the top teachers from across the country. Since 1989, the nation’s best teachers have been presented with this prestigious award and landing a spot in the hall of fame. Visitors can tour the on-site museum and in 2013 a separate on-site memorial for fallen teachers was also erected.
